Global Peace School

All students have been introduced in the Save The Children program where the rights of children were shared and discussed during a presentation. Following this the school community (staff, parents and students) agreed to pursue certification as a Global Peace School. Our work towards this accreditation is ongoing as we continue our work in this key area by identifying existing programs that promote Global Peace. Our participation in this program and the documentation will be submitted to the United Nations as evidence of our schools' involvement.

Harmony Day

Harmony Day is celebrated on the 21st of March each year and is about bringing people together to celebrate Australia's community harmony, participation and cultural diversity.

At West Lakes Shore School Harmony Day is celebrated in classes and at a whole school assembly in the gym. The Theme of Harmony Day is " Me + You = Us ".

Classes show the work they have done throughout the week that has focused on harmony, peace and understanding. At the end of the assembly there is a sharing activity where all students will have the chance to share their friendship with others. Orange is the theme colour of Harmony Day and we encourage students to wear something orange on the day.

Inspiration from notable figures in history

Buddha (566-486 BC)

You can develop the right attitude toward others if you have kindness, love and respect for them, and a clear realization of the oneness of all human beings.
The Dalai Lama, 1989 Nobel Peace Laureate

If we wish to create a lasting peace we must begin with the children.
Mohandas K Gandhi (Mahatma Gandhi), Indian leader and pacifist (1869-1948)
